Clerical House
HOUSING
BRAGA, PORTUGAL
The building is designed to accomodate retired clerical, starting from a strong concept, a T plan, to which a low secondary block is added, involving the first form, forming an interior courtyard on one side and opening the building to the garden on the other side. The sequence of spaces begins at a central point, the intersection of the T arms, the foyer. The South and West wings are composed of rooms and in the East wing the chapel.
It has two different faces: to the North a white facade, uniform, in glass block, of light; to the South a black facade, varying, in canvas and black foil, which allows solar control, with balconies and cutting out limits. In the interior a uniform and constant light in all circulation spaces and a strong and contrasting light in all private and public living spaces.
In urban terms, the clerical house of S. Martinho de Dume, the Seminar building to the East, the Episcopal residence to the West and a future construction to the North, create a symbolic internal emptiness, where they congregate several moments of the clerical life: learning, practicing and resting, at the end of their lives.
